The Remote Sensing Department of EMA has been established towards the end of 1992. Since its establishment, it has been prepering / producing different digital imageries, such as Aerial photographs, satellite imageries.

The cost of remotely sensed data depends on the processing type and format as well as area coverage requested by the users.

Thematic Products

EMA prepares special purpose maps such as tourist maps, city/town maps, road maps, land sat spot for land uses, land type detection, application of national urban resources, request of reduction of maps, etc.

We can provide any thematic map digitally based on request.

The  cost of thematic mapsis determined on the basise of the complexity and volume of work.

Topographic Map

The areas covered and available in digital topographic are the following.
5% of 1:50,000 scale
35% of 1: 250,000 scale (Contours only)
100% of 1:1,000,000 scale

EMA has provided urban planning large-scale maps for Addis Ababa city and for towns ordered by National Urban Planning Institute (NUPI) such as Mekele, Diredawa, and Harar. The scales of the cities/towns are the following:

1. Addis Ababa 1:20,000 and 1:25,000
2. Mekele 1:2,000
3. Dire Dawa 1:2,000
4. Harar 1:2,000

 town/city maps can be prepared upon request.

Map Catalogue

The Ethiopian Mapping Agency prepares Map Catalogue to assist map users by providing information about our services, be they are thematic maps, topographic maps and geodetic, cadastral and engineering survey data.
The catalogue will be periodically revised as more and more, maps, Aerial photographs, and other relevant information are available.

Scene 1957 - 2005 Aerial photographs at the scale of 1:50,000 are available in our film documentation center and for specific areas in large scales are also documented.

We are doing Aerial photograph processing, flight index preparation, film labeling, printing on photographic papers and diapositives, enlargements, reductions and orthophoto prints are the most done activities. Aerial photography and reproduction training are given for trainees.
